Authentically Out of Tune

Modern recording technology is out of this world. Especially when it comes to auto-tuning.

The worst singers can be made to sound like gold on recorded audio.

If you look up Taylor Swift's live performances from before 2010 or so, like this one, you'll see what I mean. Not that she was the worst singer, but definitely not on pitch without the aid of a recording engineer.

We're in a new age of perfection when it comes to audio recording. Technology ensures everything is 100% in tune and in perfect time.

And so, when I hear an older recording from the '70's that's maybe not quite in tune from time to time, there's a beauty there.

An authenticity of sorts.

And when it comes to art that speaks to us on the deepest level, you can't beat authenticity.

Never miss a blog post!

When 2 + 2 = 10

When it comes to practicing, most people don’t get how time works. People think the amount of practice time is most important. Rather than the frequency. Logic tells us this: Practicing 5 minutes for six days would be the same as practicing 30 minutes for one day. It adds up to the same total minutes, so the benefits are the same.
