False Advertising

The Guyver is one of the worst movies ever made.

The acting is so bad, it watches like a comedy. But it's supposed to be a serious sci-fi action movie. The special effects and script are equally bad.

The Guyver is a superhero. Like a crappy version of a Power Ranger.

Mark Hamill is in The Guyver. And this was after Star Wars. But the funniest part is, Hamill isn't the main character. He plays a CIA agent.

I can only imagine the number of drinks he had every evening after filming.

The actor who played The Guyver was so bad, he didn't land many more roles after the movie.

In fact, he was so bad, they didn't bother putting his name on the DVD cover. And this is where the movie makers cut some uncool corners.

When you look at the DVD cover, the only actor's name you see is "Mark Hamill." Here is a link if you want to see for yourself.

The cover imagery also implies that Mark Hamill plays The Guyver.

I can see where they're coming from. They made a terrible movie. And they made the mistake of casting Luke Skywalker himself as an unimportant character.

But to save face, they made the cover look like the movie is something that it just...isn't. And if you watched the DVD based on the cover, you would be profoundly disappointed.

They would have been better off re-branding the film as a pseudo-comedy. At least it would have been authentic.

It's tempting to cut corners to draw people into our art.

Not lying, per se. Just stretching the truth.

Performing once in Canada and calling ourselves international artists. That kind of thing.

It's more fun and honest to be authentic. Like advertising a concert to hear "Internationally-Unknown Pianist Jonathan Roberts In Concert."

That kind of authenticity is rare.

But it kind of makes you want to go...doesn't it?
