Goals are tiring...
Know why? Because they're far in the future.
Training to run a marathon starts a good six months before the event happens. Graduating high school takes four years. Paying off the mortgage takes a couple decades.
Sometimes just trying to stay motivated isn't enough. Motivational speakers, videos, podcasts, all of that stuff is great. But, what really helps you or your kids make it all the way to the goal is something different.
It's your sense of identity.
More importantly, who you want to be.
Do you want to be the kind of person who tries again even after a huge fail?
Do you want to be the kind of person who practices the piano even when it's been a tiring day?
Do you want to be the kind of person who comes up with creative solutions to tough problems?
Or do you want to be the kind of person who gives up?
The decisions whether to continue or not become a whole lot easier when you start asking what those decisions say about who you are.
