In Search of Middle C

Ever notice how easy it is to find middle C? Not only for piano students, but just about everyone else on the planet, too.

Middle C? Oh yeah, I know that one!

Bang. Done.

Yet, we struggle finding the other 87 keys of the piano in the beginning. A strange phenomenon, isn't it.

But, perhaps middle C was sent to us by a higher power in the universe to teach us a lesson. I can just hear middle C calling out to us now...oddly, in the voice of Morgan Freeman.

Learn to get to know the others just like me! I'm what it feels like to know something deeply. We're giving you this one for free. You'll have to work for the others.

Not just the other 87 keys of the piano. But, the other billion keys of life, too.

If we're going to do something, let's do it well. Let's do it deeply and fully. Let's immerse ourselves in it.

Let's learn it until it reaches that magical point...where it is as warm, friendly and familiar to us as middle C.

Never miss a blog post!

For parents, students, and anyone else who believes that music can and should be a meaningful part of everyone's life.

When 2 + 2 = 10

When it comes to practicing, most people don’t get how time works. People think the amount of practice time is most important. Rather than the frequency. Logic tells us this: Practicing 5 minutes for six days would be the same as practicing 30 minutes for one day. It adds up to the same total minutes, so the benefits are the same.
