Years ago when I was in college, I remember something a friend said on Year's Eve.
I'd just finished playing a salsa-dancing gig on saxophone (back when I played saxophone).
Midnight was approaching. My friend, thoroughly inebriated, said, "It's a new year, everybody! It's a blank canvas! The slate is wiped clean! It doesn't matter what happened this year, tomorrow is a brand new year!"
I remember thinking to myself, "Think my credit card companies will buy it?"
The last day of the year is a magical moment to reflect on the past year. And to celebrate the start of a new year. It doesn't wipe the slate clean, though.
Rather, it gives us a mental "reset."
We experience the same thing at other points in time. At the beginning of a new week. At the beginning of a new month. For business people, the beginning of a new quarter.
And for most of us, the beginning of a new year.
It's easy to get comfortable with the idea of "the slate is wiped clean." But we blink, four months pass, and we haven't taken much action on the ol' New Year's resolutions.
But the idea of a reset is something we can work with.
We have the calendar laid out in front of us. We can plan what we want to accomplish by when. We can take the lessons of 2021 and apply them to 2022.
But only if we take advantage of that reset timeline, the first day or two of the new year.
Put it off much longer, and it ceases to be a reset. It becomes procrastination. The same old story.
So, what will you do with your 2022 reset? Leave a comment below and let us know. We can't wait to hear what your plans are.
I’m going to use the inspiration from one of ur earlier blog posts and schedule time in my day for a couple 15-20 mins blocks to practice. Then I’ll work up to developing a plan of what to work on each practice session. I think Mrs Lamb offered some good advice on those topics!! Go Mrs Lamb!!
