When you set out to learn a musical instrument...or anything new for that matter...you need to prepare to eat the Excitement Sandwich.
What is the Excitement Sandwich?
I'm so glad you asked.
When you start something new, it's shiny and exciting. Every day feels like a new adventure. This is going to be awesome.
However, once the honeymoon is over, it becomes less glittery. In fact, this is hard to keep up with without a lot of patience, love, care, and discipline. This is where the challenges arise that need working through to level up.
But rest assured, if you keep going, things get exciting again when you reach a new level of mastery!
So, the sandwich layers go like this:
Excitement
Kinda Sucks
Excitement
After your first Excitement Sandwich, you need to eat another. And another. And another. With each cycle, you get better and stronger. Eating the next one becomes easier.
In fact, planning on your next Excitement Sandwich can be...well...exciting!
It doesn't matter what it is. Music. Fitness. Health. Writing. Painting. Relationships. Politics. The Excitement Sandwich is real.
But do plan out how you will eat your sandwich carefully. Some get stuck three bites in and either choke or throw it to the curb. Take small bites, and no matter how small they are, you will eventually finish it.
And hey, check this out...maybe you finished an Excitement Sandwich just now having patiently read this entire blog post.
