The Pineapple Incident

It was a Sunday, just like any other. I was going in for my morning shift at my bartending job.

Yeah, I did that to pay the rent during my master's degree.

Around noontime, someone ordered a Long Island iced tea. A Jonathan specialty. I mixed it up, delivered it to her table, and told her to enjoy.

What I didn't realize was, the bartender who closed the previous night switched two of the bottles. So, instead of pouring sour mix into this drink, I poured pineapple juice.

Shouldn't have been a big deal, right? After all, pineapple juice is sour. Most people wouldn't be able to taste the difference. And the bottles were identical.

But what are the odds that this mistake would happen for an order from the one person I ever met who was allergic to pineapples?!?

She waved a hand and asked, "Is there pineapple juice in this? I'm allergic to pineapple."

Me: "No, I don't think so, let me che...Oh my God!!! Are you okay?!? Do you need me to call 911?!? I'm so sorry!!!!"

She was cool about it. Apparently a couple sips weren't deadly.

I learned an important lesson that day. You can never be too prepared, because you never know when weird stuff is going to happen.

But when it does, it makes for an interesting story you can tell again and again.

Or write a blog post about.

Never miss a blog post!

When 2 + 2 = 10

When it comes to practicing, most people don’t get how time works. People think the amount of practice time is most important. Rather than the frequency. Logic tells us this: Practicing 5 minutes for six days would be the same as practicing 30 minutes for one day. It adds up to the same total minutes, so the benefits are the same.
