As a society, we want our kids to succeed. To have the best in life.
So we prioritize the academics, the extracurriculars, making sure they're well rounded, and more.
But I think there's one skill that will determine the next generation's success more than anything else.
It's the skill of focus.
We're living in the greatest technological times mankind has ever seen. But, the side effect is that it's made it impossible to focus like we used to.
Because we're communicating with so many people at once.
Because marketers are advertising to us everywhere we look.
And most of the devices we use are designed to steal our attention and keep us hooked.
Just take a look around as you go about your day, and you'll see it everywhere. People glued to their phones. Sometimes even while they're driving or supposed to be watching their kids.
The more we can encourage the next generation to eliminate distractions and focus on one task at a time, the stronger their focus muscle will become.
And when it comes to non-work and resting, turning the devices off altogether, and just...resting.
The hard part for us parents is being the model. If we're staring at our phones all the time, they'll grow up to do the same thing.
So experiment. Try putting the phone away. Be present. Enjoy the moment.
Maybe it sounds a bit scary. But try it anyway. And have your kids try it.
After a week, it will be like you discovered a new superpower.
