COVID-19 illustrated why everyone needs the skills learned in music lessons. Namely creativity and perseverance.
You remember the statistics. 1 out of 6 small businesses closed because of the 2020 lockdowns.
What was the difference between the businesses that failed and the ones that thrived?
Waiting versus creating.
Many waited for better days. Others created those better days.
Take the pizzeria in Chicago that started making face shields.
Or the high-end restaurant that turned into a badass delivery service.
Or seeing virtual Santa Claus at Christmastime!
As humans, we're wired against risk. We have to fit in. We have to do things like everyone else, or it won't be safe.
But COVID-19 reminded us that there is no safety in sameness and waiting. The only real safety is in becoming a calculated risk-taker. Doing things differently. Daring to be creative with the work that matters.
Again and again and again.
