Finding the Smallest Breakthrough

Lots of people put off practicing because it feels like there's not enough time.

In reality, there is time. Everyone can spare five minutes. Unless you're a prisoner or something like that. (But then, even prisoners are allowed down time.)

In reality, I think people feel like there's not enough time to do something significant. That lots of time is needed to do move forward, otherwise it's not worth bothering with.

This is wrong. All you need is a smallest breakthrough.

Breakthroughs are stereotyped. We associate "breakthrough" with "big." Small breakthroughs? Not so much.

But, small breakthroughs can be yours if you let them.

Even if you can only spare five minutes. What's one thing you can improve upon in that five minutes? The smallest thing that you can walk away from in five minutes feeling victorious? Even if it's only moving ahead a few measures in a new piece.

Do this every day, and it accumulates. Perhaps one of the small breakthroughs ignites something you didn't realize was there.

Keep searching for the smallest breakthrough.

Every.

Day.

In time, they will inevitably add up to one of those big breakthroughs you've heard stories about. The ones of legend. The ones that change lives.

But it all starts with that first smallest one.
