There's a great Family Guy cutaway where the characters are playing Pictionary.
One of the characters keeps guessing "jackal" over and over again until time is up and Stewie loses it.
Words don't do it comic justice. Check out the clip here. (Not really appropriate for younger, sensitive ears.).
Similar to the man who thinks "jackal" will be the correct answer the fourth or fifth try, we tend to play wrong notes again and again, hoping they will be right.
Literally and metaphorically.
That chord that clearly clashes and doesn't sound good.
Why do we bother playing the same notes even one more time?
How often do we get irritated when something isn't working, music or otherwise, but we keep doing the same thing?
It's the definition of insanity, they say...doing the same thing and expecting a different result.
So...
Pick something that bothers you today. And do something different.
After the first time it doesn't work.
Not the second, third, twentieth, or hundredth.
See what happens.
