People get slowed down by the idea of learning to do something new.
People who want to start a business feel they need to take dozens of courses, read two hundred books, and probably go get a college degree before getting started.
Or, people who want to sell their art think they need more training.
Musicians who should be starting their careers continue school for a "performance diploma" - which is code for "really expensive piece of paper that says you took two more years of lessons."
Because it just feels too soon to get started.
But how long do you have to wait?
You don't.
Doing is where it's at. Doing is where the real education happens. The learning that happens when you figure things out along the way is irreplaceable. Certainly can't be covered in a class or a book.
Method book publishers have been figuring out every way possible to get kids to read piano music faster.
But the reality is, kids who read music of any kind frequently get better at reading music.
The same goes for piano technique books, which students and teachers obsess over.
The kids who just play every day inevitably end up having decent technique. Long as they're thinking about it every day, of course.
It goes for anything. Whether you're starting a business, thinking about a hobby, want to change careers, or want to build something great.
Just do it. Learn from the mistakes. And do it again.
That's where real education lies.
And that's where real change happens.
