Many parents pass on music lessons for their kids because they believe the cost is too high.
Or, parents will opt for the cheaper lessons because they believe that music lessons should not be more expensive than X dollars a month. Regardless of the quality of the teacher.
But here's what I find interesting.
A parent may believe $200 a month isn't worth the possibility of her kids having music for life. But that same parent will gladly pay $600 a month or more in car payments.
Payments on something that will either break down or be traded in over the coming decades.
Part of it is our culture. Most of us grew up believing that expensive car payments are just something you do. And that's more important than music.
More of it is our values. The more we value something, the less the cost matters to us and the more we're willing to spend. Whether we realize it or not.
We invest in the things we value.
The question is, are these values reflecting the people and parents we want to be?
