Ever feel so overwhelmed with what needs to be done that you end up doing nothing?
This is how practicing ends up forgotten about. With the tidal wave of other obligations swimming in our minds, making time for a good piano practice session is like a drop in the ocean.
Here's something you can do about it.
Write it down.
Sound a bit too simple? Try it. Prove me wrong.
Write. It. Down.
Here's the deal. Our minds are strange places. Emotions, feelings, and overwhelm enter the picture. When you write things down, you give physical form to your thoughts.
Write down what's on your mind. Your projects, your problems, your obligations, your hopes, and your dreams. For your eyes only.
Then, organize your thoughts in a way that you can see everything at a glance. My favorite tool for this is Trello. You can create lists, create cards under each list, and then write additional notes for each card.
Then, like throwing darts at a dartboard, you can work on these things one at a time. You have an organizational system. It's one of the most powerful writing assignments they never assigned you in school.
And best of all, you don't have to drown anymore.

My Dad taught us to use as many of our senses to remember to get stuff done. Writing it down is one of my goals for the new year!?
