90% of it Will be Crap

When it comes to creative work, we need to ship it as frequently as possible.

“Shipping” meaning that we’re publishing our work so it can be seen, heard, or experienced by our audience.

Why?

Because 90% of it will be crap. We won’t nail it on the first try. But every time we ship, we learn more about what to tweak on the next try.

And the more you ship, the faster you can get through that 90%, and the sooner you can get to the big one.

That projects that moves your audience in a meaningful way.

Not only the project that moves your audience, but has the impact you dreamed of when you first began your work.

  • I’ve experienced this by participating in SSPS’s recitals both in person & virtual!! Although the thought of performing for an audience is scary as Hell, I’ve pushed thru and participated anyway. I’ve learned at least one valuable lesson each time.
