When texting, I use smiley emojis more than most people. I also end sentences with "lol" as if it were punctuation.
But most of the time, I'm neither smiling nor laughing out loud.
Rather, I'm taking precautions to make sure the recipient understands my sentiment.
After all, how many of us have offended someone with a text that was taken the wrong way? While texting is convenient, you lose that nuance of tone.
The world would be a better place if everyone took that extra second to think about this.
You know...to think about how their communication and work could be received by a stranger before sending it.

Same sentence, different meanings. (This is assuming you're trying to be friendly. But if you need to be stern, be stern. After all, to be unclear is to be unkind.)
When it comes to communicating, you can never put enough energy into making sure the message is received as intended.
