It's hard to stay motivated to play the piano long-term. Even for professional pianists.
There. I said it. Can we all breathe a sigh of relief now?
Whether we're parents, kids, or adult students, we need to figure out how to stay motivated. That's why we have a blog on our website - to give you a daily (or, almost daily) dose of inspiration to keep you motivated.
One way to get motivated is have a Rolodex of things that get you fired up.
If you're working out, some things that might get you fired up when things get tough are:
- Imagining the consequences of giving up on your exercise program.
- The excitement of having more energy, more strength, and a better physique.
- The glory of proving all your friends wrong who said you'll never stick with it.
It doesn't matter if they're mature, petty, or even a little dark. Whatever gets you fired up and gets the job done.
For continuing with the piano, some things that could get you fired up might be:
- Counting yourself among the top 5% or so of humans who can play the piano.
- The fear of joining the endless ranks of adults who say they quit piano as a kid and regret it now.
- Looking forward to building enough skill to play that favorite song and show off to your friends.
Make your "get fired up" list today. And when the going gets tough, whip that baby out.
Then get back to work.
