Maybe it was Hollywood.
Or maybe it was becoming too enamored with seeing the spectacular results of people who put in the work. Without seeing the work itself that happened behind the scenes.
Whatever the case...It seems that at some point in human history, we decided that if we're passionate about something, we have to like it all the time.
And that's not true.
But, it's the reason a lot of people quit piano. Or quit a lot of things, for that matter.
We hit a challenge. It's not as easy as it used to be.
And to be fair, repeating the same four measures twenty times in a row to perfection is not something most people find fun.
But what happens with ourselves, or with our kids...is we assume that if we don't like it, it must not be worthwhile. Or if we don't like it, we must not be passionate enough.
So we let them quit. Even though we got it all wrong.
The most successful people in the world don't need to love the work. They don't even need to like the work.
But, they're addicted to the results.
And that's what makes the whole thing worthwhile.
