A couple days ago, we had a snowstorm here in Boston. If you're not from Boston, you probably heard about it - the big snowstorm that swept most of the country.
The commotion was interesting.
People stocking up on supplies. No milk to be found at the supermarket. School being canceled. The whole, "we're in for a big one" experience.
Except...it only snowed an inch or two.
And every forecast said that it was only going to snow an inch or two.
I found myself wondering, did I miss some secret information somewhere?
Lo and behold, the morning that was supposed to be whiteout conditions was...well...not. Yes, it was snowing. But, school has been in session for worse snowstorms in the past.
It was an interesting example of what happens when everyone says the same thing.
In this case, everyone said there's a huge snowstorm coming. Therefore, everyone prepared for a huge snowstorm. Despite the weather forecast telling us something different.
Makes you wonder - what else are we believing only because everyone else is saying it?
