Career Students

Most students have to be at school for 7 hours a day. That's 35 hours a week.

If they go straight home after school, that is. Add in an after-school activity each day, and they're up to 40 hours.

Students have an average of 2-3 hours of homework per night. Staying on the modest side, that adds another 10 hours. We're now up to 50 hours.

Throw in a sport in the name of well-roundedness, and the typical practice schedule adds another 10-15 hours per week.

And so, the typical student's "work week" comes to over 60 hours a week.

Is it any wonder kids have a hard time slowing down and focusing to practice music? To practice at all, let alone practice well?

For that matter, is it any wonder that kids are stressed?

Before sending our kids to a child psychologist for stress issues...

Before putting them on medication for an ADHD diagnosis...

Before assuming they have entered the "angry teenage years," and that's the explanation...

Add up their "student work hours" for a week. If it's a number that makes your heart beat faster, try cutting something.

In a world where everyone is trying to do too much, your children will have the superpower of self-care and a balanced life.

And those are the people who actually change the world.
