Students do a lot of things in the quest to be above average. Typically in the name of building the college resumé.
But, if everyone is doing the same things to become above average, doesn't that make everyone...average?
Wouldn't the better path be to do something different? Something nobody else is doing? Something that is so...you?
Colleges and employers receive tens of thousands of applications that check all the "above average" boxes. I imagine for college it comes down to a lottery much the time.
But if a student does something off the beaten path. Something remarkable. Something that makes a difference to the world. Something that says who they are and what they care about.
That one thing will mean more than all the extracurriculars, test scores, and lack of sleep on the planet.
