An education is a wonderful thing. The problem is, your diploma or degree is only a ticket of admission.
If you get a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, that allows you to apply for jobs that require that degree.
Unfortunately, it only takes up one line of your resume.
And you're competing against everyone else who also has that same degree.
A degree is not a differentiator.
So, how is the employer to decide?
An interview could be the deciding factor. But then, all a successful, traditional interview means is that the candidate is skilled at interviewing. Not necessarily skilled at the job being hired for.
The key differentiator is experience. This is what schools and colleges should be giving students so they have an edge in the job market. But most don't.
Experience is unique to everyone. And the way people learn through experience is an indicator of how well they will do their work in the future.
It also makes for heck of a much more interesting resume to read.
