As humans, we're used to following authority figures. And that's important. It keeps things from falling into chaos.
But.
Sometimes we're so used to following instructions, we do so blindly. Either on autopilot, or because we're afraid to challenge the authority.
An example.
There was a physician who ordered ear drops to be administered to a patient suffering from pain and infection. But instead of writing the instructions out, he used shorthand that read...
Place drops in R ear.
You can probably guess what happened.
And that's exactly what happened.
The duty nurse administered ear droplets in the patient's anus.
Question authority when something doesn't seem right. Do it often. Teach your kids to do it.
Because you never know when disaster may strike.
