Good Grades Aren’t Enough Anymore

What do you call the person who graduates bottom of the class in medical school? Doctor.

Getting into and graduating from a prestigious high school is great. But, everyone else graduating has the same credentials.

Straight A's and a 4.0 GPA are an achievement, no doubt. But hundreds, maybe thousands, of students applying to the Ivy Leagues all have straight A's and a 4.0 GPA.

And even if you complete a degree from a demanding institution, you're graduating with others who have the same qualifications competing for the same jobs.

It's time to accept that good grades aren't enough anymore.

Not enough to make a difference. Not enough to stand out. Not enough to be remarkable.

So, what do students need?

The ability to acquire new skills quickly.

The ability to practice. The ability to take unrelated skills and combine them into something remarkable and innovative.

In a world that's obsessed with metrics and grades, it's the skill-builders who will make a difference for future generations.
