Know Thy Audience

There's a reason Pixar has created some of the most successful children's films of all time.

They know their audience.

An audience of not only kids, but their parents who will be paying for the movie tickets. And they need to be entertained and transformed, too.

When you look closely, you'll see that every box office blockbuster in the kids' department resonates not just with the kids, but also with the adults. Everything from bigger parenting themes to borderline-inappropriate jokes that only adults will get.

Disney+ has a new cartoon called Bluey that accomplishes this on a whole new level. It's like watching a cartoon with a double meaning. Entertainment for kids, and teaching a parenting lesson for the adults.

In our creative work, we can aspire to such things ourselves.

Not catering to the masses. But finding that ideal audience for our work, and making sure what we do not only resonates with us, but also resonates with them.

That's what real art is all about.
