The legendary author Seth Godin often riffs on the concept of "taking a lesson." Funny how you take a term for granted until someone dissects it.
Why do we "take" piano lessons? Why do we "take" a class? Why do we "take" a course?
Why not enjoy piano lessons? Experience piano lessons? Immerse ourselves in piano lessons?
In retrospect, "taking" a lesson sounds more transactional. Like I'm going to take a cup of coffee from Starbucks today. Transaction complete.
Whatever the case may be, next time you "take" a class, course, instrument, or hobby, try replacing the word with something else.
Does it change your mindset?
