The Walls Are Real

It's the most dream-killing lie ever told. That all progress is steady and linear.

Nowhere to go but up.

If you believe it, you can do it.

If you want it enough, you'll make it happen.

All lies. Well, mostly lies.

Here's the problem. Progress is never linear. Sometimes there are dips. A lot of times there are outright walls

Periods of time where it feels like no matter how much work you put in, you're not getting anywhere. This is where "if you want it enough, you'll make it happen" ends up biting us in the !@#$.

Because when things don't happen, we think, I must not want it enough

And then we quit.

But the walls also present an exciting opportunity. To learn through failure. To find the cracks between the bricks.

To be the one who pushed through the wall when the other 100 people gave up. That's the exciting part.

And we like excitement and challenge. I mean, come on.

Remember the movie where the good guy got everything he wanted without a problem?

Me neither...

The walls are real. But that doesn't mean we shouldn't embrace them.
