Unitasking

We live in an age of multitasking. We wear it like a badge of honor, in fact.

Reading the newspaper while watching the news.

Answering emails while talking on the phone.

Responding to texts while using the restroom.

Did you know that multitasking is biologically impossible? Meaning, the brain is incapable of doing two things at once. In reality, when we “multitask,” our brain is switching back and forth between tasks at a rapid pace.

Milliseconds rapid…

While our brains can switch back and forth at a ridiculous speed, it’s still not very efficient. You can get more done if you focus on one thing at a time. In practice, work, life, whatever.

Unitasking.

Try it. Come back and let us know what you think.

This post was inspired by A.J. Jacobs’s book, My Life as an Experiment, where he details how multitasking nearly killed him. Rest assured, it’s a hilarious book.
