My neighbor association had a contest for most patriotic house for the Fourth of July.
The winner was the house that had the most decorations. The shiniest decorations. The most clever decorations. There was even a player piano with pre-recorded patriotic songs to boot. It was a pretty cool house.
Meanwhile, there was another house on the other side of the neighborhood with a tattered-looking flag on the front porch.
At first, the flag looks like crap.
Until you realize that it's an authentic American flag. As in, the owner of the house fought in World War II.
So, which is most patriotic? The most genuine?
The one that gets the most attention? Or the one that belongs to family that went to war for this country?
It all depends on who you ask.
