If there is one reason people quit a musical instrument, it is because they have trouble slowing down.
Maybe they progressed quickly in the beginning just fine. But with new challenges come the need to slow down, experiment, adjust, and learn. At least a little.
Learning to play music can't be rushed, crammed, or bought. There are no shortcuts.
But, we live in a world that makes slow difficult. The past three decades have been built on speed and efficiency. As a result, what did we end up with? More of everything.
There is a lot of noise. Everywhere. It makes it hard to stop and think without feeling behind on something.
But, the one who can find our natural but lost ability to slow down is the one who has the advantage.
The one who can slow down to think through an innovative solution before rushing through 10 faulty solutions.
The one who can slow her breathing down and relieve her stress.
The one who can slow down in order to move faster.
If you can slow down in this day and age on a regular basis, then congratulations. You have a superpower. A superpower anyone can have, but few consider a possibility.
Go forth and do good.
I'm just not sure what the superhero outfit would look like, though...
