Harnessing the Ability to Go with the Flow

Remember that show Whose Line is it, Anyway? The show where actors would be given ridiculous ideas, props, and scenarios to improvise a scene?

There's so much we can learn from improv theatre. Namely, the ability to go with the flow.

Whose Line wouldn't have been such a success if the actors had the script in advance.

And can you imagine how it would have bombed if the actors said, "Sorry, those are ideas are too tricky to improv a scene. Can we have a more realistic one?"

But no. Give these guys a top hat, a candy cane, and a rubber ducky, and they'll improvise a skit you'll remember for weeks.

In life, you don't get the script in advance. You don't really know what's coming next. Fear of looking bad grapples at all of us.

And sometimes we have just those precious seconds before we lose an opportunity to do something remarkable.

If you have to choose between the fear of looking bad and the fear of missing out, choose the former.

It's much more interesting, whichever way it pans out.
