Mainstream education drives our kids to have a daily schedule that looks something like this.
School from 7:30am-2:30pm.
After-school sports until 5pm.
Other after-school activities until 7pm.
Arrive home and do 2-3 hours of homework.
Many middle schoolers go to bed at 11pm or later, then get up as early as 5am.
According to the CDC, middle-school-age kids still need 8-10 hours of sleep. In our haste to educate them, it's easy to forget they're still growing. And no school or activity can give us a pass on our own biology.
Traditional school...
Sports with part-time-job hours...
Other extracurricular activities...
Our children's mental, emotional, and physical health...
They can't have it all. There are only so many hours in a day. Something's gotta give.
So, which one will it be?
