What Practicing Really Sounds Like

It must be wonderful living next door to a pianist.

Not really...

Hollywood ruined our perception of what practicing sounds like. Think about it.

Any movie you've ever watched about a musician. Do you recall the scene where they repeated small sections again and again to perfection? Or where the string player discovers the magic of finally playing in tune?

Not so much.

It's all blue skies.

During my pandemic summer of 2020 video challenge, I made this video to show you what I mean.

If your practicing is unpleasant to listen to because of how repetitive it is, you're probably doing something right.

If people love hearing you practice in your house, you're probably not practicing. You're performing.

When you know what good practicing is supposed to sound like, that's where the momentum begins on the road to awesome.
