Chores and Gifts

Does practicing feel like a chore?

Does getting started on a new project feel like something you have to do, rather than something you want to do?

Or, maybe it's not the project itself that's chore-like. But, the not-as-exciting tasks that are necessary for every project.

Doing the video editing for a documentary.

Incorporating reader feedback as you edit your upcoming book.

The repetition required to learn an awesome Beethoven sonata movement.

If it feels like a chore, here's a reframe that might be helpful.

Rather than seeing it as a chore, cherish it as a gift.

I mean, think about it.

Practicing the piano comes with some not-so-fun activities. Practicing slowly. Untangling the hard parts. That kind of stuff.

But, then...how many people play the piano? It's a minority of the human population. We know that for sure.

So, when you think about it like that - how cool is it that you get to even approach this kind of work?!?

That, my friend, is a gift.

One that you can be excited about enjoying.

Even when you're working through the hard parts.
