If you try to open a jar of pickles and you can't, what do you do?
You probably try harder.
Perhaps you squeeze tighter. You grit your teeth. Perhaps even make a bodily sound or two.
But does trying harder work? Does it get the job done without causing a little pain?
Probably not.
What would happen if we stopped trying "harder?" What if we tried to pinpoint the problem instead?
Maybe the lid is too slippery.
Maybe you lack the physical strength to open the jar. (Something we don't care to admit to, but happens nonetheless. I blame the pickle jar companies.)
What are some other ways you could open a jar that won't twist off?
You could get a bottle opener and pry it open. Depressurize it, or whatever they call it.
You could find something to grip it with to give you some traction.
If desperate, you could just drop the jar on a hard surface. But you probably won't need to go that far.
Point is...
Most of the time we don't have to try harder with the same approach. In fact, trying harder is usually frustrating. And it hurts a little.
But troubleshooting and finding an approach that's effortless and fast?
That's magic.
